Wetherspoons

New menu out Sept 2017, just waiting to update

Vegan menu 7 Sep 2016

Here on this page you will find a link to a pdf of the current menu as of August 2016.

Wetherspoon are working with the vegan society and have the following four dishes checked / approved and all carry the Vegan Society logo:

Swee Potato & Chickpea Curry (incl. naan bread from 7 Sep)

Pasta Pomodoro

Five-bean Chilli (from 7 Sep)

Apple crumble – no custard

~Please be aware that not all drinks in the Wetherspoon range are suitable for vegans.

Some items may contain traces or milk or egg, as some foods do.

There is always the possibility of cross contamination because of how food is prepared.

Some fried items such as, chips, hash brown, onion bhajis etc are to be eaten at your own discretion, as some pubs cook meat in the vegetable fryer. The oil from both fryers maybe filtered together anyway, even if they do cook separately.

*The mushrooms are cooked in a non-dairy margarine. (August 2016)

Sometimes you just have to think outside the box to expand the vegan choices available. This was put together by a vegan in April 2015 who worked for Wetherspoon and read all the labels.

Please note that as the basis of following article was put together in April 2015, some items may no longer be available but there may also be additions, please see their latest vegan menu.

Okay, here’s what vegans can order at Wetherspoon. You may have to make some special requests but the staff really don’t mind…unless you’re a table of 30!

Ask for toast without butter

Breakfast:

Beans on toast

Fruit Salad – no yoghurt

Toast and marmalade

Vegetarian breakfast – substitute the egg and quorn sausage for more beans, hashbrown, toast, mushroom* or tomato.

Lunch:

Italian tomato and basil soup with bread

Jacket potato with beans – ask for vinaigrette instead of dressing

Chicken breast wrap – mushroom* instead of chicken

Ham panini/toastie – ask for tomato, lettuce and mushroom* instead of the ham and cheese and make a little MLT! If you’re going to have any sandwich/toastie/wrap, you may be able to add sauteed onions to it.

Nachos – request no cheese or sour cream, extra guac/salsa

Freedom Salad

Bowl of chips

Side salad – vinaigrette instead of dressing

Sweet potato curry – substitute the naan bread for extra poppadum. Naan should be included in the vegan option from 7th September 2016.

Curry club (Thursday): ~Choose a drink from the club range.

Sweet potato curry – substitute the naan bread for extra poppadum. Comes with mango chutney.  Naan should be included in the vegan option from 7th September 2016.

Mexican Mondays :  ~Choose a drink from the club range.

Tortilla chips and salsa side order

Salsa and guacamole is vegan.

There is also a naked burrito –  Mexican rice on lettuce with guacamole.  Ask for without sour cream.

Pizza Express

August 2016 – this desperately needs updating, but we need a volunteer to take it on. Want to help?

The current full Allergen sheets for food and drink are here and items SFV are identified:

https://www.pizzaexpress.com/help-and-contact/where-can-i-find-allergy-information?ListType=search

Starters

Dough balls with oil and balsamic

Polenta chips without cheese and dressing,

Mains           From 20th June 2017 they now have vegan cheese as an option.

Pizza bases are completely free of animal and dairy products, and so is the passata sauce

Pizza Pianta is completely vegan

Pizzas are made fresh and most pizzas can be made suitable for vegans – by changing toppings and removing cheese. Unfortunately, they do not have a vegan cheese – but you are very welcome to bring your own vegan cheese to top your pizza, provided that it is in a sealed pack, in date and the date is clearly visible on the pack. The pizzaiolos can either return to you the rest of the pack or dispose of it. It cannot be brought in/kept at the restaurant for repeat use. Please note The Giardiniera Pizza has pesto (I believe you can ask for it without, as well as skipping or swapping the cheese). The pesto is vegetarian, but not suitable for vegans – as it contains milk cheese.

The Potato Nocciola are not SFV even without the cheese, they contain milk

Penne pasta is vegan, so you can ask for a vegan custom pasta dish, ask for tomato sauce as the base and add any veg you want.

Superfood salad without cheese,

Superboost Salad – It’s vegan WITHOUT the light house dressing. The vinaigrette is vegan friendly as an alternative.

Desserts

Ice lollies/pops

Dairy Free Raspberry sorbet with a chocolate straw and mint

Coconut delight

All wines sold at PizzaExpress restaurants are suitable for vegans and vegetarians, with the exception of the following:

  • Pinot Grigio
  • Pinot Grigio Blush
  • Bollinger
  • Cava rosé
